Underpainting with pearl inkAID on textured spunbonded polyester, digital overprint with oil paint. 12" x 24 " x 2"
I use dimensional stable materials as a base for building up textured layers of acrylic mediums, molding paste, paper, collage, paint, etc. The backing needs to sturdy enough to support the layers of wet materials and also soft enough to move smoothly through an inkjet printer. Heavy weight spun bonded polyester by REEMAY is one of the most useful materials I use. After I complete my substrate I coat it with 1 - 3 coats of inkjet precoating from inkAID.
The only retail resources I know of for the heavyweight product are UNIVERSITY PRODUCTS AND TALAS:
Reemay spunbonded polyester is acid-free and is available in different thicknesses. The random weave of the 100% polyester non-woven fabric prevents pulling or stretching in any direction. Reemay is an extremely strong support material for preservation/conservation efforts including immersion treatment, interleaving, lining and backing. It retains its physical properties when wet and is dimensionally stable during humidity changes.
